The objective of GIC is to establish a common interface for providing u[p-to-date information about government services.

GIC offers information on approximately 2500 government services in 3 languages in 12 hours x 7 days basis over the telephone and web. Further any citizen can make a complaint or grievance about government services through simply by dialing 1919. Its service is accessible by dialing 1919 from any telephone network. The foreigners or expatriates can access GIC by dialing +94 11 2 191919. It also offers the same information in 3 languages through its multilingual interactive website, www.gic.gov.lk

During last five year of operation it has provided information to over 5,000,000 numbers of callers. The difficulty faced by the government sector specially in responding to citizens in Tamil language has been resolved properly and this fact is validated by the number of calls received by Tamil citizens.
